ELTOC: Developing Critical Thinking and Global Skills in ELT

Often in the classroom, it is a challenge to get our students to go beyond the simple and obvious answers and to think more carefully. In this session, we will look at several examples of challenging questions and thoughtful activities taken from the new 4th edition of OUP’s Q: Skills for Success series. We will explore definitions of different types of critical thinking skills and extend beyond them into the more holistic approach of global skills. Global skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and intercultural competence are among the skills that can help prepare students for lifelong success. We will examine these skills and look at practical ways to develop them for our students in the classroom.
